Denver, Colorado, is a ski bum's paradise. The slopes are a bit of a drive from the Mile High City, which you can still think of as a gateway to some of the best skiing in the country, with Echo Mountain, Loveland Ski Resort, and Eldora Mountain just an hour away by car (you can get to Vail in under two hours.) Even if you don't ski, Denver's got a lot to offer—sunny, surprisingly mild winters, low property taxes, gorgeous parks, and bike-friendly streets, not to mention legal, recreational marijuana.

Denver's also got a burgeoning tech scene, which has slightly ticked up its cost of living but also bolstered the city's job market. For folks who like good beer and great food, the city's brewery and restaurant scene is seriously underrated, with standouts like Great Divide Brewing Co. and Hop Alley drawing locals and visitors alike. And if you need a short break from the Rocky Mountains, Denver's only a quick flight to bigger coastal cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The average price of a single-family in Denver is $540,624, a record high, according to the Denver Business Journal, which is below the median price of a studio condo in Manhattan.

If any of that sounds appealing to you, here's a taste of what's out there.
