Dallas, Texas is a changing town. Though its suburbs have long been wealthy Republican holdouts, the 2018 midterms saw a surprising number of local election districts shift from red to blue, and 66 percent of the county voted for challenger U.S. Representative Beto O'Rourke, a Democrat, who ultimately lost to incumbent Senator Ted Cruz.

A number of other Republicans lost their seats, in a defeat that one Dallas Morning News writer called "a take you back to the woodshed kind of whooping."

The swing could in part be attributed to the Lone State's recent population boom—the Dallas/Forth Worth/Arlington area saw a 146,000-person population uptick in 2017 alone. 

Dallas has a booming economy, hefty job market, and low wages relative to its cost of living, making it a popular spot for renters and owners priced out of some of the country's more expensive cities. Mild seasons, an eclectic dining and nightlife scene, and inviting neighborhoods only add to Dallas's appeal. If any of that sounds appealing to you, here's a taste of what's out there.

5823 Marquita Ave., M Streets

This four-bedroom, three-bath house, also pictured above, is located in Dallas's hip M Streets area, a section of the Lower Greenville neighborhood that's become very popular with young couples and families, thanks to its relatively low  housing costs and restaurants and bars. The house itself has a fireplace in its well-lit living room, a kitchen with a separate island, and a master suite with a massive dressing room and a jetted tub. If you can swing pricer digs, consider this massive six-bedroom, six-bath property, with a total 5,900 square feet. There are almost too many highlights here to count, though the multiple fireplaces, library, and elegant chef's kitchen are certainly noteworthy.
