A New York Times article heralded Warwick, New York's "wide open spaces," and for good reason. The funky, picturesque town, located at the southern tip of Orange County, is one of the largest towns in the state, with over 101 square miles, much of which are taken up with wineries, apple orchards, ski slopes, a big lake, a number of adorable bed and breakfasts, and the historic Village of Warwick, where Martha Washington reportedly hung out during the American Revolution.
Warwick's open spaces are especially inviting to big festivals—the town hosts a bunch, including a Summer Arts Festival, the Hudson Valley Jazz Festival, and its annual Applefest, which happens to take place this Sunday. Warwick also borders the town of Tuxedo, home to the state's annual Renaissance Faire, if giant turkey legs and costumed knights and wenches are your thing. Even if it's not, there's a lot to enjoy here, including affordable (and spacious!) real estate. Consider, for instance, this four-bedroom, two-bath converted farmhouse at 54 Minturn Rd, now on the market for $649,000.
The farmhouse was built around 1734 and has retained some vintage touches, like this elegant full-width front porch. The shutters are also beautiful, though it's unclear whether they're part of the house's recent restoration.
Inside, there's a large living room with a fireplace and a big picture window.
There's a formal dining room with a lovely chandelier.
An additional nook for entertaining features a funky wood ceiling.
The kitchen has been recently updated and outfitted with stainless steel appliances. The tile floor is a nice touch, as well.
This "casual eating area," per the listing, looks bigger than my entire actual kitchen.
There's an extra room you can use as a family room or turn into an office, if you choose.
Here's one of the baths, which is outfitted with a glass shower.
The four bedrooms appear to be quite spacious.
The vintage wooden floors in this bedroom add a real air of authenticity.
As do the light fixtures.
The second bath looks a little bigger than the first one.
In addition to the main house, the property features a barn with an updated roof and new rafters.
There's also an out-building the current owners appear to be using as an additional living space.
Outdoor space includes a patio and an in-ground pool.
And there's a beautiful pond with a small footbridge.
The house is about a one-and-a-half-hour drive from the city,
