The North Fork has long been hailed as a budget-friendly alternative vacation destination to the Hamptons. This four-bedroom, three-bath house on the Long Island Sound in Southold isn't exactly a bargain at a listing price of $1.75 million. It's actually closer to the East Hampton median sales price of $1.6 million than the North Fork median of $300,000. Nevertheless, the house is on a bluff with a terrace that offers postcard views of the Sound, and that might just be worth it to the right buyer.

There's a lovely, sunlit living room, with sliding doors opening onto the terrace.

The living area has room for a dining table, so you can enjoy the sunset over dinner.

The kitchen is outfitted with plenty of custom cabinets, as well as stainless-steel appliances.

At least one of the bathrooms is properly decorated for the beach.

As is one of the upstairs bedrooms, though you could certainly repaint if you don't like the color.

The master suite, located on the first floor, has big windows that look out on the Sound.

Another bedroom is being used as an upstairs entertainment room.

Most importantly, the lot includes 115-plus feet of Sound frontage, which you can enjoy from your private deck.

A set of stairs runs down to the beach below. The lot also has room for a pool, should you feel like installing one. There's a separate two-car garage as well.

Southold is about a two-hour drive from the city with good traffic. The Hamptons Jitney's North Fork line also has a stop in Southold, as does the Long Island Rail Road's Ronkonkoma line. The house is a five-minute drive from town.
